READING OF SCRIPTURES (DU JING)

Sometime last year, a 'qianxian' from Taiwan was in Malaysia explaining the benefits and advantages of reading and memorising the Scriptures/Sutras.  We were fortunate that she dropped by at Tian Wei to share with us.

The benefits and advantages are - (1) absorbing the so called 'good vibrations' and good values; (2) increasing one's wisdom; (3) the scriptures/sutras shall be our teacher; (4) memory improvement and ...

On 28 July 2013 at Tian Wei Temple, participants were tested, as can be seen from the photos appearing here, and they consisted of children, youth and adult.  As mentioned above, the benefits of 'dujing' are numerous for example those from very young age are encouraged because their brain at that age is just like a sponge which absorb anything be it positive or negative.  If given a choice wouldn't we choose the positive?        

The participants were tested by different methods - to read from memory, fill in the blanks and arranging the verses in sequence.  This is in preparation for the National Level Reading Of Scriptures ('Du jing') Assembly at Kuala Lumpur in September.
 

Nepalese dao kin in Penang

Ishwori tz brought several Nepalese dao kin to visit Penang.  Lim tz with Michael tz picked  them up from the bus station and proceeded to show them around Penang Island.  I joined them for dinner at Tiffany Vegetarian Restaurant at Amoy Lane


After dinner one Nepalese dao kin ask where to find betel quid or "paan", he must have his fix *haha*.  First we went to the flower stalls at Pitt Street but were directed to Market Street (aka Little India).  Betel quid consist of betel leaf with areca nut ("pinang") and other ingredients like lime (calcium carbonate), tobacco and spices (like clove, cardamon, turmeric) (see: link ).
My mom use to eat it on certain special occasion.

10 Sept 2011 at Tian Wei, though it was the lunar 13th day and not 15th day, the mid-autumn festival was celebrated Before the celebration, prayers for the 15th day and also anniversary day in which the Enlightened Teacher (Shi Zun) 'bin tian' (passed away/return back to Heaven).

A talk was delivered by Zhong TZ about the life and sacrifice of our Enlightened Teacher ('ming shi').

Loh Shang (Lunar New Year)

Last night at Tian Wei after DDQ meeting we had 'loh shang'. Lunar New Year mood.

CNY 2011 Lantern Lighting

It's the time of the year again. The annual lantern lighting ceremony was held on 22/Jan/2011 at Tian Wei Fotang, Penang. Before the lanterns were switched on each area did a sketch about the five type of lanterns ie. merits, brightness, transference, elimination of misfortunes and wisdom. Enjoy the video.

Chinese New Year celebration 2010 at Tian Wei. And distribution of 'ang pau' (red packets) at old folks home, orphanage home and spastic centre.

Youth Culinary Arts Exchange 2009

The return of the chefs (gods of cookery??). Last time they came was on 31/Aug/2008 - HERE. They came and cook up a storm. There are all together 4 teams. They are required to prepare 3 dishes made up of rice, chinese cabbage & tofu and 1 dessert. Then it will depend on their creativity, to prepare the 3 dishes and 1 dessert all within 3 hours. After preparing the dishes and dessert, they will be judged based on inter alia taste, creativity and display. During the judging by the 3 judges one representative is required to give a presentation or explanation of why they have chosen this particular name for each of the dishes and the dessert and how it relates to cultivation of Dao.

"DU JING RE" (RECITATION OF SUTRA/CLASSIC DAY)

It was 'du jing re' (June) at Tian Wei Fo Tang and a test was conducted to test the children memory. They were very hardworking in trying to memorize the classics/sutras. These is the time when they are absorbing things, so let it be good things they absorbed.
